Sangoma Music

John and Sangoma trainees

Sangoma music is extremely sacred and goes back hundreds of years.

Sangoma means – “People of the Song” because for centuries traditional South African healers would use song and dance rhythms to go into trance. Once in trance Sangomas would become spirit mediums between this world and the next. They would assist the living with messages from their ancestors. For this reason the correct rhythm and song is vital to bring the sangoma closer to the ancestral or spirit world. In these turbulent times Sangomas provide meaning and a link to our common shared ancestry as human beings. These songs and rhythms are ancient and are just as relevant today as they were hundreds of years ago.

It is only for sale to people who have done a workshop with John, either a one day or weekend. It is vital that people understand a bit about the Xhosa culture and spirituality before buying the album.
